To answer that question, we have to take a step back in time. Specifically, we are traveling back to 1954, the year that the Rolex Submariner was released at the BaselWorld art fair. With the dawn of the Submariner, Rolex made its official debut on the stage of diving watches and nautically inspired pieces. One might even argue that this was the beginning of the years of seafaring heritage that set the brand on the trajectory to unveil the Yacht-Master line about four decades later.
In the late 1980s, the Rolex design team was playing with new looks and aesthetics to update the Rolex Submariner line. The team fell in love with one design in particular, but they were worried that customers

Rolex revealed the new GMT-Master II ‘Batman’ while we were at Baselworld 2019. Today it’s time to give our thoughts about this stunning timepiece which is now in stock at Avi & Co.
This watch has the same major updates as the GMT-Master II ‘Pepsi’, which was unveiled at Baselworld in 2018. As you can see, the most noticeable change to this model is the bracelet. It now comes in a Jubilee bracelet instead of the Oyster Link design, adding a bit more elegance.
The second upgrade is the new Caliber 3285 movement which has a power reserve of up to 70 hours. The prior Batman has a Caliber 3186 which only lasts up to 50 hours. These innovations provide more precision, power reserve, shock resistance, and reliability.
The final change on this model is on the 6:00 part of the dial; there is now a Rolex crown logo between Swiss and Made. This will tell if the new edition is genuine or not.
