On September 14th, Avi Hiaeve, founder and CEO, officially closed the deal on Avi & Co.’s third location. “I’m feeling nervous,” he told me. “Nervous. Happy. Excited. Worried. It’s a mixture of a lot of feelings, but I’m mostly excited. I can’t wait.”

Trying to grab Avi is like trying to catch a cheetah. He’s always on the move: flying from the Big Apple to the Design District, in business meetings, appointments with customers, and spending time with his family.
How are you staying so calm during all of this? I wonder as I jokingly point out his tapping feet. With a million things happening at the same time, the emails that kept accruing during our interview, it’s no wonder Avi has a lot on his mind. “Both of my phones don’t stop ringing,” he laughs, just as his phone mockingly proceeds to ring.
Dual time watches are equipped with two hour hands to indicate two different time zones. The primary hour hand must be independently adjustable by hour increments, and the second-hour hand indicates 12 or 24 hours. They are more complicated than a GMT because they move on two subdials, however, both serve the same purpose.
The difference between a dual time watch and a GMT watch is usually the scale. A dual time watch has a 12-hour scale, while a GMT watch has a 24-hour scale. Most dual time watches have a day/night indicator, and a hand that can be adjusted more easily than a GMT watch.

By now, you know Avi’s backstory - how he moved to New York City from Israel with his family when he was 14 years old. How he wanted to own his own business at 16 with the experience he gained from working since he was 10. How the only English he knew when he arrived here was yes and no.
I wanted to sit down with Avi in a more professional, yet intimate setting. Interview him in a way that didn’t talk about the story we already know and admire. I wanted to get to know the man behind the jewelry industry in a more up close and personal setting with questions that have been on my mind, the teams, and you too – on camera and 100% real.

Avi is a business owner, an entrepreneur, a father and a brother. As an entrepreneur, he sells high end watches, creates custom pieces for celebrities, sells to jewelers in the wholesale industry, and he has a manufacturer where they set diamonds for pieces. Basically, he does a little bit of everything that has to do with the luxury world. But, before Avi was able to build this reliable company so near and dear to New York City’s Diamond District, he first had to make his way over here.
