‘Twas the night before ski season, when all through the state, not a skier was stirring, not one was up late…
Come the middle of November, there is a perceptible shift in the Colorado atmosphere. The entire state is poised on the verge of one of the most exciting parts of the year… the opening weekend of ski season, of course! Skiing is the major draw of the Aspen area, although this slice of Colorado is gorgeous year-round. In addition to winter sports, however, there are countless other outdoor activities and indoor activities to enjoy next time you are in the area.
This year, Aspen and Snowmass Mountains open for skiing on November 28 (which also happens to be Thanksgiving Day). Other popular spots like Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands open on December 14. As you plan your next trip to Aspen, you’ll also want to save some time to check out the upscale downtown, which is complete with numerous designer shops, delicious dining options, and hot live music venues.
Why Should You Visit Aspen, Colorado?

If you are immersed in ski culture, then you have probably heard of Aspen before. But if not, it’s possible that this little town in Pitkin County, Colorado may not have crossed your radar. During the spring, summer, and fall, Aspen is home to just over 7,000 people. But come winter, the town’s population skyrockets to about 27,000 as skiers and snowboarders from all over the world come to this noteworthy winter sports destination.
The “big four” mountains in Aspen are Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Buttermilk, and Aspen Highlands. Each offers a unique set of groomed trails and snowy terrain for skiers of all levels. Many winter sports enthusiasts consider Aspen Mountain the “crown jewel” of the region due to its convenient location in proximity to Aspen’s downtown strip and multiple ski-in/ski-out amenities. Aspen Mountain caters to intermediate and expert skiers.
At Aspen Highlands, you will find classic trails like Apple Strudel and the Highlands Bowl, which is a rite of passage among locals and other ski enthusiasts. There is no lift servicing the Highlands Bowl, so you have to “earn your turns,” to use ski lingo. A short yet steep hike will take you to the top of the bowl, and then experts will have the chance to ski down steep, alpine terrain in an exhilarating adventure.
Snowmass is the largest ski area of the four, boasting over 3,300 acres of terrain. The varied terrain options at Snowmass allow the mountain to appeal to a range of abilities, meaning skiers and snowboarders of any level can find a trail they love. Buttermilk is the best place to start for family ski groups and beginners, as there are a variety of learning opportunities and bunny hills.
But skiing is far from the only thing to do in Aspen! There are plenty of year-round attractions in Aspen, including numerous celebrations and festivals. But best of all, Aspen has attracted some of the world’s most elite designers and boutiques to set up shop in its downtown area…

As you stroll these breathtaking streets that are nestled in the very heart of the Rocky Mountains, don’t hesitate to pass through into our welcoming and serene luxury watch and jewelry boutique. We are a secondary market watch retailer specializing in elite brands like Richard Mille, Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet – and those are just a sampling of what we have in our extensive collection.

Or better yet, schedule an appointment to enjoy concierge service as you work directly with a member of our experienced and knowledgeable sales team to find the watch that best suits your needs.
When you shop for watches on the secondary market, you are paying for convenience and access that you sometimes can get when purchasing timepieces directly from the manufacturer. Watch brands often have some hoops that clients have to jump through, and many have long waiting lists to get your hands on a new piece. On the secondary market, however, you can find limited edition, vintage, and one-of-a-kind watches in mint condition.
At Avi & Co., our expert jewelers examine and vet every single piece that comes through our doors. Every watch we sell is a verified genuine piece, and we only deal in factory-set creations that will hold their value over time. Check out some examples of our incredible collection right here…
