In 2004, Richard Mille introduced the RM 005, its first automatic model. It featured a semi-instantaneous date change and was made of 18k white gold. The watch has a signature skeletonised dial and comes with a leather strap. The RM 005 was also the first model to feature the exclusive variable-geometry rotor. This invention allows the movement's winding mechanism to be optimised and personalised to the owner's lifestyle by adjusting the six-position rib placement setting. The patented mechanism modifies the rotor's inertia, either speeding up or slowing down the winding process based on the wearer's level of activity. The watch is water-resistant up to 100 meters or 330 feet.
